Alentejo

Alentejo is Portugal's largest wine region, where rolling plains, ancient cork forests and granite hills create one of the country's most diverse viticultural landscapes. Once renowned for generous, full-bodied wines, the region has undergone a remarkable transformation, with a new generation of producers redefining Alentejo through freshness, elegance and terroir-driven winemaking.

The region's eight subzones range from the warm plains of Borba and Reguengos de Monsaraz to the elevated vineyards of Portalegre, where the Serra de São Mamede mountains bring cooler temperatures, longer growing seasons and remarkable natural acidity. Granite, schist, clay and limestone soils further shape the character of each wine, creating styles of exceptional diversity.

Among the pioneers of this modern renaissance, Fitapreta has played a defining role in reimagining Alentejo through native grape varieties, historic vineyards and minimal-intervention winemaking. Indigenous varieties such as Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional express the region's identity with remarkable precision. Today, Alentejo produces wines that balance richness with freshness, combining generous fruit, mineral tension and refined structure while showcasing the extraordinary potential of Portugal's native grape varieties.
