Fitapreta O Iluminista 2024

Style:

A balanced and expressive Alentejo red. Ripe and approachable, combining fruit, spice, and subtle oak with a fresh and elegant profile.

Vineyard:

Located in Alentejo, sourced from vineyards planted on granite (60%) and schist (40%) soils. The vines are cultivated in very poor soils, naturally producing low yields and highly concentrated grapes. The warm, dry climate ensures ripeness while maintaining balance and structure.

Winery:

Hand-harvested grapes followed by spontaneous fermentation and moderate maceration. Aged for approximately 12 months, with 50% in French oak and 50% in stainless steel vats, preserving both fruit purity and subtle complexity

Production:

~50 000 bottles

Nose/Palate:

Ripe black fruit, dried herbs, spice, and subtle earthy notes on the nose, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with ripe dark fruit, spice, light oak influence, smooth tannins, balanced acidity, and a fresh, elegant, well-rounded finish.

Fitapreta

Fitapreta is a dynamic, modern winery based in Alentejo, founded by winemaker António Maçanita with a mission to rediscover and reinterpret the region’s historic identity. Working from a restored 14th-century estate near Évora, the project blends deep research into ancient vineyards and indigenous grape varieties with a fresh, innovative approach.

Fitapreta focuses on reviving old field blends, traditional winemaking techniques, and forgotten local grapes, while farming with care and precision to reflect the diversity of Alentejo’s terroir. In the cellar, the philosophy is flexible and experimental - combining modern methods with ancestral practices such as fermentation in clay amphorae.

The wines are vibrant, characterful, and distinctly different from the region’s more conventional style - showing freshness, structure, and a strong sense of place. Fitapreta stands out as one of the most exciting contemporary voices in Alentejo, bridging heritage and innovation.
