Large-format bottles have long been associated with Champagne's greatest celebrations, but their importance extends far beyond their impressive appearance. As bottle size increases, the ratio of wine to oxygen decreases, allowing Champagne to mature more slowly and evenly. This results in finer bubbles, greater freshness, enhanced complexity and exceptional ageing potential, making large formats highly prized by collectors and sommeliers alike.

The Magnum (1.5L) is widely regarded as the ideal ageing format, often producing the most balanced expression of a Champagne. Beyond Magnum, larger bottles such as Jeroboam (3L), Rehoboam (4.5L), Methuselah (6L), Salmanazar (9L), Balthazar (12L) and Nebuchadnezzar (15L) are produced in far smaller quantities and are typically reserved for special occasions or limited collector releases.
