Description

Style

A refined and expressive white Burgundy, combining richness with precision and balance. Elegant and layered, with a clear sense of terroir and freshness.

Vineyard

Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, sourced from selected parcels on limestone-rich soils. These sites contribute to both concentration and minerality, creating a balanced and terroir-driven profile.

Winery

Hand-harvested grapes, whole-bunch pressed and fermented with native yeasts. Aged in French oak barrels (low percentage of new oak) with lees contact, enhancing texture and complexity while maintaining precision.

Nose/Palate

Citrus, ripe orchard fruit, white flowers, and subtle toasted notes on the nose, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with a balanced structure between richness and freshness, citrus and stone fruit flavors, light oak and mineral tension, and a long, elegant, persistent finish.

Chassagne-Montrachet

Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune, renowned for both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Alongside neighbouring Puligny-Montrachet, it forms the heart of Burgundy’s greatest white-wine terroirs.

The vineyards stretch across limestone and marl soils with varied depths and exposures, creating a broad range of expressions. Chardonnay from Chassagne tends to combine mineral freshness with greater breadth and texture, often giving wines a fuller and more generous character than the more linear style of Puligny-Montrachet.

The wines typically show lemon, pear, white peach and white flowers, with almond, hazelnut, butter and subtle pastry notes developing with age. On the palate, they balance ripe fruit and creamy texture with vibrant acidity and a persistent limestone minerality.

Chassagne is also home to several Grand Cru vineyards, including Le Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet and part of Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, as well as numerous highly regarded Premier Crus.

Historically, Chassagne was strongly associated with both red and white wines, but Chardonnay gradually became increasingly important as the reputation of the Montrachet vineyards grew. Today, the village is one of Burgundy’s benchmarks for refined, age-worthy white Chardonnay.

At its best, Chassagne-Montrachet combines richness and minerality with remarkable balance — broader and more textured than Puligny, yet still precise, fresh and deeply expressive of its limestone terroir.

"Hereditas"

Hereditas is a refined Chassagne-Montrachet cuvée from Joseph Colin, expressing the domaine’s heritage and precise, terroir-driven approach. The wine combines ripe citrus, white flowers and orchard fruit with an elegant, textured palate.

Vibrant acidity and fine limestone minerality provide freshness and structure, while the long, saline finish highlights the distinctive character of Chassagne-Montrachet.

Hereditas is an elegant and precise expression of Chardonnay — combining richness, freshness and mineral tension.

2023 Vintage

A warm and expressive vintage in Chassagne-Montrachet, 2023 produced Chardonnay with ripe fruit, generous texture and excellent aromatic concentration, while the limestone-rich terroirs preserved freshness and mineral definition.

The wines show ripe citrus, pear, white peach and white flowers, with subtle almond and pastry notes. The palate is broad and silky, balanced by lively acidity and a fine chalky-mineral character.

Compared with cooler vintages, 2023 is richer, rounder and more immediately approachable, while retaining the elegance and structure needed for further bottle development.

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet is a generous and refined vintage — combining ripe Chardonnay fruit, texture, freshness and the distinctive mineral character of the Côte de Beaune.

Joseph Colin

Joseph Colin

Domaine Joseph Colin is a small, highly regarded domaine in the Côte de Beaune, founded in 2017 by Joseph Colin, part of the well-known Colin family of Saint-Aubin. After working alongside his father at Domaine Marc Colin, Joseph set out on his own to craft a more personal, terroir-focused expression of Burgundy.

Farming around 6 hectares across prestigious sites in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Puligny-Montrachet, he works with a thoughtful, low-intervention approach in both vineyard and cellar. Fermentations are natural, ageing takes place in carefully selected oak, and each parcel is vinified separately to highlight its unique character.

Production is small and highly allocated, with wines known for their precision, energy, and mineral depth. Domaine Joseph Colin has quickly become one of the most exciting names of the new Burgundy generation, offering refined, expressive wines with clarity and finesse.
