Vineyard

Winery

Biodynamically farmed grapes, hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak barrels, with lees contact to enhance texture, complexity, and integration.

Nose/Palate

Citrus, white flowers, stone fruit, and subtle toasted notes on the nose, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with vibrant acidity, layered mineral-driven structure, citrus and orchard fruit flavors, subtle oak and lees influence, and a long, precise, elegant finish.

Vougeot is a small and historically important village in the Côte de Nuits, best known for the legendary Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. Although the Côte de Nuits is dominated by Pinot Noir, Vougeot is unusual in Burgundy for producing both exceptional red wines and a small number of distinguished white wines.

The village's vineyards lie on the slopes between Chambolle-Musigny and Flagey-Échezeaux, with soils varying considerably in depth and composition. Limestone, clay and marl create different expressions depending on altitude and position, from more structured wines on the upper slopes to richer, deeper styles lower down.

The historic Clos de Vougeot was created by Cistercian monks in the 12th and 13th centuries, who gradually assembled and enclosed vineyards with the famous stone wall. The château and Clos became one of Burgundy's defining vineyard landmarks and remain central to Vougeot's identity today.

Although Pinot Noir dominates, Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot is a remarkable exception: a historic white-wine vineyard situated within the Clos de Vougeot area. Its Chardonnay produces wines with ripe fruit, mineral tension and impressive depth, showing how versatile the terroir can be.

Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot is a rare white-wine vineyard within the historic Clos de Vougeot, owned and farmed as a monopole by Domaine de la Vougeraie. Surrounded by the celebrated Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, this unique Chardonnay site occupies a privileged position in the Côte de Nuits.

The vineyard has deep historical roots: white vines were planted here by Cistercian monks centuries ago, making Chardonnay an integral part of the history of the Clos despite the Côte de Nuits being overwhelmingly associated with Pinot Noir.

The soils are rich in limestone and marl, giving Chardonnay both natural richness and a firm mineral backbone. The wine typically shows citrus, white flowers, pear and stone fruit, developing almond, hazelnut and subtle pastry notes with age.

On the palate, it combines generous texture and concentration with vibrant acidity and chalky minerality. The result is a wine that feels simultaneously rich and precise, with a long, saline finish and excellent ageing potential.

2023 was a warm, generous and successful vintage in Vougeot, producing wines with ripe fruit, expressive aromatics and excellent concentration. A warm growing season brought richness and depth, while Burgundy’s limestone-rich terroirs helped preserve freshness and structure.

For white Vougeot, particularly Chardonnay from Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot, the vintage shows ripe citrus, pear, white peach and white flowers, with subtle almond and pastry notes. The palate is broad and textured, balanced by fresh acidity and fine limestone minerality.

Compared with cooler vintages, 2023 is more generous, rounded and immediately expressive, while retaining the structure and mineral tension needed for further ageing.
