Among the many styles of Port, Tawny and Colheita best demonstrate the influence of time. Rather than preserving youthful fruit, these wines mature for years in seasoned oak casks, where slow oxidative ageing gradually transforms their character. The result is a lighter colour, silky texture and remarkable complexity, with aromas of toasted almonds, walnuts, dried figs, orange peel, caramel and warm baking spices balanced by the vibrant acidity that defines the finest Ports.

Tawny Port is blended from multiple vintages to achieve a consistent house style. Age indications such as 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 80 Years Old refer to the wine's average age, with older Tawnies offering increasing depth, elegance and concentration while maintaining freshness.

Colheita represents a more individual expression. Produced from a single harvest, it must spend a minimum of seven years in cask, although the finest examples remain in wood for several decades before bottling. Each vintage develops its own personality, making Colheita a fascinating snapshot of both the growing season and the long maturation process.

Our collection is centred on Van Zellers & Co, one of the Douro Valley's oldest wine families, whose history dates back to the 17th century. The estate combines centuries of Port-making expertise with a modern focus on precision and vineyard expression. Their Tawny Ports display exceptional balance between richness and freshness, while their Colheitas reveal the remarkable complexity that only extended cask ageing can achieve. Rather than emphasising sweetness alone, Van Zellers crafts Ports with remarkable elegance, lifted acidity and extraordinary length, making them equally compelling as contemplative wines or alongside aged cheeses, roasted nuts and classic desserts.

Together, Tawny and Colheita illustrate another side of Port—one defined not by power, but by patience. They are wines shaped by decades rather than years, where time itself becomes the final and most important ingredient.
